What is the InBody 270 / 270S
-
The InBody 270S is a professional, portable body composition analyzer from InBody USA.
-
It uses bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA), specifically a Direct Segmental Multi-Frequency BIA approach. This means it measures impedance through different segments of the body (arms, legs, trunk) and using more than one frequency. It doesn’t rely on estimations based on age, sex, ethnicity etc. for many metrics.
-
It is intended for professional / clinical / fitness-business use rather than just a home scale.
What it Measures / Outputs
Some of the measurements and outputs that an InBody 270/270S provides include:
Metric
Description
Weight
Total body weight.
Percent Body Fat (PBF)
What fraction of body weight is fat.
Fat Mass & Fat-Free Mass
How much of the body is fat vs non-fat (muscles, organs, water etc.)
Skeletal Muscle Mass
Mass of muscles that are attached to skeleton.
Total Body Water (TBW)
Amount of water in the body.
Segmental Lean Analysis
Lean (non-fat, non-water) muscle measurement across limbs (right arm, left arm, trunk, right leg, left leg) to check balance or asymmetry.
Body Composition History
Past test data (e.g. weight, skeletal muscle, percent body fat) so you can see trends.
Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR)
Estimate how many calories the body burns at rest.
Whole Body Phase Angle
An indicator is sometimes used to assess cell membrane integrity / cellular health. |
